Where: Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Area B, Unit A
When: Fall/Winter 2025, specific date TBD
Why: The prescribed burn is part of remedial actions that were selected for BLM Area B under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA). The selected remedy is described in Final Record of Decision (ROD), Track 2 BLM Area B and MRS-16, Former Fort Ord, California (Army, 2017).
The Army’s prescribed burn program at Fort Ord is conducted as part of the munitions cleanup program. A burn encourages recovery of endangered fire dependent plant species and facilitates continued munitions clean-up. To protect sensitive species, the prescribed burn season is limited to summer and fall from July to December of each year. Days that meet the burn prescription usually occur in the fall months.
More information about the prescribed burn may be found on the Fort Ord Cleanup website. Also, enroll in the Army's Direct Notification Program to receive messages when the prescribed burn is imminent, has been ignited, and has been completed.
