On June 16, 2021 the Monterey Bay Air Resources District Board authorized the incentive amounts for the FY 2021-22 Monterey Bay Electric Vehicle Incentive Program (MBeVIP). This year’s program is further enhanced by stacking two other incentive programs currently available for purchases of eligible electric vehicles (EV).  Details and applications for the three programs can be found here:

By stacking all three incentive amounts, applicants can receive cash-back incentives up to $5,500, which may be doubled for those applicants who qualify as low-income earners (each program’s low-income requirements may vary).  There are also federal tax credits available based on the make and model of the electric vehicle.  Hence, there has never been a better time to experience driving and owning an electric vehicle with these stackable incentives.

According to Richard Stedman, Air Pollution Control Officer for the Monterey Bay Air Resources District, “Oxides of nitrogen (NOx) are primary chemical compounds combined with other pollutants that produce ozone (smog).  Over 60% of the total emission of NOx in the Air District comes from motor vehicles.  Fully electric vehicles produce zero emissions and zero green-house gases.  By encouraging and incentivizing their use, significant long term air quality benefits can be achieved.”
